Hi! The news has been keeping me very busy these days! And probably you too! Before the calendar flips to May, here’s a round-up of my reporting about the shake-ups in NIH research grants. Presented without comment, I’ll start with the latest story, published today:
These NIH Grants Were Terminated. Now They’re Back. A handful of scientists whose funding was canceled by the Trump administration are now seeing those decisions reversed — and it’s not always clear why.
The Quiet Way the NIH Is Stalling Some Research Before It Starts. A number of grant proposals have disappeared from scientists’ review pipelines, with little explanation. Applicants are bewildered and frustrated.
Faced With Frozen NIH Funding, These Universities Are Trying to Fill the Gap. Scientists have been screaming for a life raft. Some institutions hope internal funds will keep them afloat during the chaos.
The NIH Is Canceling Grants for Research About Trans People. At least a half-dozen research grants were terminated by the NIH, which said that “programs based on gender identity are often unscientific.”
NIH Funding Is at a Standstill. This Professor Is Tracking the Delays. More than half of the NIH grant-review meetings that were supposed to take place this year have been canceled, she says. “Without these meetings happening, nothing can get funded.”
What else?
I delivered a keynote to the Perspectives on Scientific Error Workshop (at the University of Bern, in Switzerland).
I spoke on a panel at the Society of Environmental Journalists’ conference (in Tempe, Arizona).
The Campus Files podcast interviewed me about the saga of the Cornell Food and Brand Lab.
In May, I’ll be on a panel at the Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science’s conference (online).
Thanks to everyone who’s invited me to speak!
OK, until next time.
Thanks for the update! Enjoy your trips 💛
